Hello, I'm Rahul
A small, deliberate corner of the internet.
RahulsNotes is where I think in public about building software, designing things that respect people, and the slower habits that make good work possible.
I'm Rahul Ranjan — an engineer and designer who has spent the better part of a decade shipping products, mostly on the web. I like the part of the work that happens before the code: the naming, the trade-offs, the moment a fuzzy problem becomes a sentence someone can act on.
This journal exists because that thinking disappears. It gets buried in pull requests, Slack threads, and documents nobody reopens. Writing it down forces a clarity that a meeting never does — and occasionally it turns out to be useful to someone else.
What you will find here
Essays about software architecture and craft, product design and interfaces, AI tools used honestly (including their limits), writing, and attention. Some posts are technical. Some are closer to notes from a walk. All of them are attempts at saying one true thing clearly.
If something here helps you, or if you disagree with it, I would like to hear about it. Write to me.
A few working beliefs
Write to find out what I think
Most essays begin as a question I could not answer in conversation. Writing is how the answer gets found — and how I notice when it is wrong.
Depth over volume
There is no publishing calendar to satisfy. An essay appears when it is finished, which is usually later than expected and better for it.
Leave the reader with something usable
A frame, a question, a small practice. Something that survives the tab being closed.
